With 28 years as an attorney, Diane Sykes has the experience, judgment, and temperament that voters expect from a judge. Diane's diverse legal career has given her a comprehensive understanding of the justice system and the impact on the people it serves.
Diane has worked as a public defender, Legal Aid attorney, Oregon Department of Justice Senior Assistant Attorney General and attorney in private practice. Diane built and led Oregon's first Civil Rights Unit at the Oregon DOJ, a program that continues to flourish to the present. Few lawyers have worked in as many corners of the legal system, giving Diane a unique understanding of the diverse legal issues people bring into the courtroom.
As a bilingual attorney, Diane can communicate directly with Spanish-speaking community members, helping make our courts more accessible and responsive to the people they serve.
Diane believes every person deserves to be heard, treated with dignity, and given a fair opportunity to participate in the legal process. As a judge, she will foster a courtroom that is accessible and committed to justice for all.

Diane lives in Portland with her husband, their dog, Maeve, and is the proud parent of two college students.
